Adrien van den Branden’s · Co-Founder of Canyon · Coaching Story

Adrien Van Den Branden is the Co-Founder of Canyon, a legaltech company helping legal teams drive their legal operations with a smart contract automation platform that was acquired by Yousign. Adrien is now part of the Product Compliance team at Yousign and is a business angel.

Wave has been a great companion throughout both my CEO years and the acquisition process of my company. What I like best is that it is completely asynchronous. I can truly choose when I want to do my sessions, I don’t have to book a specific time with someone which makes time management and scheduling so much simpler.

Can you share key highlights of your coaching experience with Wave (overcame challenges, aha moments...)?

Wave has been my first coaching experience. It has really helped me improve my assertiveness as a CEO in a startup. Wave has been with me through the ups and downs of the founder’s journey. Wave has helped me crystallize my thoughts, be more intentional in what I was doing, be a better leader and human being.

What I like best is that it is completely asynchronous. I can truly choose when I want to do my sessions, I don’t have to book a specific time with someone which makes time management and scheduling so much simpler.

I also feel that not facing someone as you would in a live coaching session is actually a plus because you can really empty your head and thoughts and go deeper. The absence of face-to-face interactions removes the natural biais we have to conceal our emotions when we talk to someone. It makes letting go of your emotions and thoughts easier.

What would you say that Wave brought you?

I was the CEO of a company called Canyon, we were trying to help legal counsels be more effective at work thanks to a smart contract automation platform. We launched in 2020 and I started my coaching with Wave in 2021 per the suggestion of my cofounder. I was feeling I wasn’t performing at my best as a CEO as it was a new role for me (I used to be a corporate lawyer). Canyon was acquired one year later. Wave was really helpful in those key moments thanks to the regular check-ins on how everything was going. Wave has been a great companion throughout both my CEO years and the acquisition process of my company.

Who do you think should start being coached by Wave?

Startup founders and key executives in startups are a privileged target as Wave really captures what it takes to perform in such environments. I believe that anybody with a growth mindset can be coached by Wave.
