The CFO that wanted to feel more confident in her role

This story is about Fuchsia Greyhound, a CFO, that felt that she was not properly recognized by her team or management peers which caused a lot of anger and resentment. Each of Wave’s clients is known as an alias to preserve confidentiality. Each alias is granted randomly and is a coloured animal.

Fuchsia Greyhound came to Wave with the intention of working on her confidence in her role as a Financial Director. She felt that she was not properly recognized by her team or management peers, and this discrepancy between her expectations and current reality caused a lot of anger and resentment.

Wave started by helping her explore the emotions at stake when confronted with these situations and developing tools to face confrontations more serenely, through a series of drawing and reflection exercises. Through her reflection, Fuchsia Greyhound was able to uncover the link between her frustration and the way she sets expectations and deals with obstacles.

She realized that she oscillated between strong determination and willingness to achieve very ambitious goals, and discouragement and anger when for some reason she met resistance, from third parties or external events. This behavior impacted her both at home and at work, and lead to conflict or self-censorship.

By questioning her drivers, but also the alternate strategies she could apply when dealing with opposition, Fuchsia Greyhound was able to apply a new mindset based on a test and learn approach that made the way she approached challenges more smoothly, both in the way she empowered her colleagues and in the way she supported her closed ones. With Wave’s help, she took the opportunity to apply this mindset to plan managerial tactics and workshops to increase her team engagement.

To do so, she received resources that complemented her busy schedule and preferences: no long-reads (she preferred to keep reading as a pure hobby as much as possible), only short to medium podcasts and videos, that she was able to listen to as she went on with her day.

Through all this work, Fuchsia Greyhound was able to increase her confidence at work and reached a score of 8/10, from her initial 5/10 on this aspect of her professional life.
